Overview

BBH is a uniquely powerful resource for today’s changemakers and tomorrow’s leaders.

Housed in a stunning brutalist building on the UC Berkeley campus, the BBH is where two programs intersect to launch companies to address the problems of today and prepare future founders to solve the problems of tomorrow.

For the ‘founders of tomorrow’, the Campus Programs at BBH offer training, support and experiences tailored specifically for undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs and faculty. BBH will prepare future founders to realize their entrepreneurial potential.

For founders, the Bakar Labs incubator offers world-class laboratories, and direct connections to expert communities and patient capital for startups working at the interdisciplinary boundary of bioconvergence. Bakar Labs at BBH will accelerate taking your discovery to market.

Addressing the problems of today, preparing for the problems of tomorrow. Two time horizons, two communities, one powerful home.

The Campus Programs, for future founders:

Berkeley BioEnginuity Fellowships

Providing the intellectual freedom needed to start tackling the world’s thorniest problems, BBH-supported BioEnginuity Fellowships support the last two years of PhD studies for UC Berkeley’s most promising researchers.

The Fellowship encourages PhD students to use the last two years of PhD studies to address aspects of monumental challenges facing society — big challenges they might not have otherwise considered.

In addition to a stipend, the Berkeley BioEnginuity Fellowships provide an opportunity for a summer-industry fellowship with a leading industry mentor. As a cohort class, Fellows will conduct a service project defined and executed during each year of the Fellowship tenure. Fellows will also have access to unique workshops and career development opportunities.

Applications slated to open in Spring 2022.

The Studio

The Studio nurtures future founders by providing a home for student teams working on early-stage bioconvergence projects.

Nestled in the heart of the dynamic Bakar BioEnginuity Hub, The Studio is an in-residence experience that gives teams an engaging and inspiring environment in which to meet, work, and mingle. Studio progams create community, even before companies launch and leaders are made.

Applications slated to open in Spring 2022.

The Bakar Labs, for founders:

Bakar Labs at Bakar BioEnginuity Hub

UC Berkeley’s state of the art incubator for life-science startups.

To grow ideas into successful ventures, entrepreneurs need space, equipment, and multiple connections to a vibrant, proven ecosystem. Bakar Labs, part of the Bakar BioEnginuity Hub at UC Berkeley is built to be the foundational hub for resources where startups thrive.
